A month of celebrations: Welcoming the Year of the Dragon and Milestones for Rotary Clubs.
February has proven to be a month filled with festivities and significant milestones, marked by the joyous celebrations of Chinese New Year and the remarkable achievements of the Rotary club of Queenstown and Rotary International.
Rotary Club of Queenstown proudly celebrated its 49th anniversary this February.
Rotary International: 119 Years of Rotary. The journey that began in 1905 has grown into a global movement with Rotary clubs in communities across the world. Coinciding with this anniversary is World Understanding and Peace Day (WUPD), a day dedicated to fostering goodwill and promoting international undersanding and peace.

Rotary Club of Queenstown is delighted to announce the addition of a new member, Peter Yu.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Rahul Advani, policy director APAC at Ripple,who spoke on the adoption of blockchain and digital assets and how regulatory frameworks can foster innovation and achieve clarity.

Guest speaker was Prof Dr FJ Giessibl who was introduced to our club by our sister Club RCBJ.
Prof Giessibl shared his encounters with Germany's famous artist Gerhard Richter and how their "dialogues" have led to the creation of some of his best-known art masterpieces in the world.

The Rotary Club of Queenstown recognises the impact of shared joy on community spirit and believes that everyone should have the opportunity to partake in uplifting moments.

Chinese New Year celebration was held at the Yum Cha restaurant in Chinatown. The event also marked the 49th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Queenstown, and the occasion was graced with the presence of distinguised guest, Jennifer Scott.
Jennifer Scott, the International Committee Chair of the 2024 Rotary International Convention and the Rotary International Director Nominee hails from the Rotary Club of Central Blue Mountainsi n New South Wales, Australia.
A unique cultural experience was organised after dinner, where guests had the opportunity to go on a guided tour of the vibrant and historically rich Chinatown. PP Linda Gouw, licensed tour guide, shared insights into the significance of Chinatown, its history, and the cultural influences that have shaped this vibrant community.

World Understanding and Peace Day (WUPD)
Singapore's 23 Rotary Clubs joined hands to celebrate World Understanding and Peace Day (WUPD), marking the founding meeting of Rotary International in Chicago. Dedicated to humanitarian service, peace, and goodwill, the day serves as a reminder for people to contribute positively to global harmony.
President Chan Siew Luen', RC Singapore, meticulous organization ensured the success of the event, graced by Guest of Honor Dr. Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Communications, Information, and Health.

Note: Two RCQ projects in Vietnam
1. Aid to flood victims in Hue, Vietnam last November 2023. Through the Sunshine Fund, contributions of S$1000 was given to provide chicks and vital chicken rearing training, fostering sustainable livelihoods.
2. In partnership with RC Quang Tri, a Rotary global grant allowed the construction of 64 latrines in Hue.
