Rtn Axel and his family visited the residence in early August and updated fellow Rotarians about the children, the staff and their well-being. Xavier, the little baby boy is doing well and growing up fast. The Oyster mushroom project is making steady progress and the harvest has been strong. On August 4th, in one day alone, they managed to harvest and sell 24 Kilogram of mushrooms. Sisters sell the raw mushroom, but also process part of the harvest and into a salty snack, which they subsequently sell to end consumers. Sister Putri will start her physiotherapy studies in September.

The Board meeting
The off-site board meeting was held on Saturday August 17th, in the Swiss Club thanks to Rtn Markus and Rtn Anne-Sophie who made the arrangements for the venue.

Rtn Andy became a Level 5 Paul Harris Fellow in recognition for his generous contribution to the Rotary Foundation.
Rtn Andy was the Chair of Rotary Foundation in RCQ for three years before he passed the torch on to Rtn Markus on June 28, 2024.
Andy's tireless effort and persistence resulted in RCQ attainment of 100% Paul Harris Fellow membership in 2024 and new rankings in the District.

Create Awareness, take Action
On August 20th, Rtn Maiko, CEO of Pearl Falco, raised the flag on the critical situation of Akoya pearls due to global warming with her announcement of the screening of "The Pearl Legacy" in Singapore and her appeal to the RCQ members to support the movie preview in Singapore. The film is especially relevant today, with climate change drastically affecting industries worldwide. Ise Shima, the birthplace of cultured pearls in Japan is no exception; over 80% of local oysters have been negatively impacted by climate change, significantly affecting Akoya pearl production in the region. The film embodies the hope to raise awareness of a not-often-discussed industry, promote sustainability, and preserve the beauty of Akoya pearls for future generations.
"The Pearl Legacy" was screened in the Golden Village Cinema at Vivo City, from July 13th to August 31st, with some RCQ members attending the show.

That Rtn Maiko's parents launched a program over thirty years ago in 1987 aiding underserved children in the Philippines. The program, "Pearl Falco's Pearl of Hope Project" is ongoing to this day empowering children to reach their full academic potential. Pearl Falco sponsors underserved children's tuition fees from primary through secondary school, supporting the educational aspirations of children from the Philippines to the Himalayas.

Rotary Flag Day, the annual fundraising event of Rotary Foundation, was held on Saturday August 24th. This was a day of street collection in the midst of a fundraising period stretching from May 25th to September 24th, 2024. Adult volunteers joined youngsters and participated in an island-wide street collection. RCQ paid $303 from the Sunshine collected funds towards Flag Day.

RCQ members organized a beach clean up day on August 24. The stretch of the beach that was taken care of was near Stella Seaside Lounge, on Changi Coast.
Willing Hearts is the leading soup kitchen charity in Singapore preparing and delivering about 10,000 daily meals to needy and marginalized people in Singapore. They also provide other support services.
Numerous members joined other volunteers on the premises of the organization on August 31, 2024. Their day started at 5:00 a.m. and they assisted in meal preparation, packing, cleaning and delivering. It was a day of teamwork, community service and fun; some members finished the day with the bonus newly acquired skills such as ginger peeling, a useful transferable skill.

Thefirst 2024Club Assemblywas held in Tanglin Club on Monday August 26th. Members were updated on different aspects of the ongoing and future projects, undertakings and finances of the Club by the President and his team. One piece of eye-catching news for big spenders: the Sunshine fund is rich with nearly SD 9,500. The Board welcomes ideas for spending the money. Please by mindful that the Sunshine Fund, that consists in the funds raised through donation activities mainly at Club meetings, may be only used in providing financial assistance to hardship cases, or a one-off donation to a non-recurring activity/project, after the Board has approved the payment.

1. Sangkoo Yun, of the Rotary Club of Sae Hanyang, Seoul, Korea, is the selection of the nominating committee to become Rotary International’s president for 2026-27. He will be officially declared the president-nominee on 15 September if no other candidates challenge him.
Sangkoo Yun is the CEO of Dongsuh Corp., which engineers and markets architectural materials, and the president of Youngan Corp., which operates in real estate and financial investment.
2. The 2025 Rotary International Convention will be held in Calgary, Canada, 21-25 June 2025.
3. From the earliest days of Rotary, members have referred to each other on a first-name basis. Since personal acquaintanceship and friendship are cornerstones of Rotary, it was natural that many clubs adopted the practice of setting aside formal titles in conversations among members. Individuals who normally would be addressed as Doctor, Professor, Mister, the Honorable or Sir are regularly called Joe, Bill, Charley or Jerry by other Rotarians.
In a few areas, such as Europe, club members use a more formal style in addressing fellow members.
