RC Queenstown Members participated in the
End Polio Campaign organized by the
Rotary District 3310 PolioPlus Committee

RC Queenstown at the End Polio Campaign organized by the Rotary District 3310 PolioPlus Committee On 24 Oct, at the occasion of World Polio Day, RCQ Members (observing social distancing and kept to groups of 5 or less) participated in a final walk of 15.5km / 21,000 steps from Bukit Timah (Beauty World MRT Station) to VivoCity.  The Step-Up-To-End Polio Challenge was organised by the District PolioPlus Chair DGN Joanne Kam and her committee members.  D3310 Rotarians could pledge to walk either 250,000 or 500,000 steps within 8 weeks.  From our club, PP Linda Gouw and PP Erich Schneider pledged to walk 500,000 steps. PP Linda easily achieved the 500,000 steps in less than 8 weeks, whereas PP Erich pushed himself to achieve double the numbers of steps of what he pledged. On 22 October, he completed 1,000,000 steps.   Besides enjoying the benefits of walking to keep healthy, the event created awareness for RI’s End Polio Programme and collected donations through sponsorships.  Both PP Linda and PP Erich managed to rope in donors to support this projects. A total of US$3,412 was collected through RCQ participants and sponsors. Every Dollar collected by Rotary for the Polio Fund, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will contribute another 2 Dollars.
